No Show Lazio Deserves No Time with the Tea Party

I don’t run a business but my husband does.  He hires many people. Unfortunately, at times he has to fire them too.  If someone misses a job interview for valid reasons he will usually offer a reschedule.  If they do not offer valid reasons or do not give notice of cancellation he will not offer to reschedule.  Why would he?  They are not interested in the job.

On Monday August 16, Orange/Sullivan 912 had a prearranged and confirmed appointment with GOP designated gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio for what we called a job interview.  Mr. Lazio sent word by way of a text message through a staffer thirty-four minutes before the start of the vetting session that he would not be able to attend.  We had a packed room full of expectant citizens and elected officials eager to meet him and hear him answer their questions.  We planned for a professional and fair vetting session.

During the last couple of days, many grassroots activists who also received requests from Team Lazio have emailed me and asked my opinion on whether they should extend Mr. Rick an offer to come speak to their tea party group.

Here is my take on this subject.  If you do, do so at your own peril. I do not believe he REALLY cares a hoot about the tea party.

Why do I feel so strongly that you should not offer him a venue and why I would never consider having him back?  I would not, because Rick was disrespectful to me, my group, and my community.

The polite thing would have been to send a representative in his place to apologize for his absence and to speak for him at our event. A more considerate and humble politician would have thought to do that.

I cannot say that O/S 912 was set up by the Lazio Team in order to disgrace and mock us.  However, I cannot say for sure that we were not.  We realize we are not well loved right now by the Conservative or Republican party because we have forced primaries in many races and have created a new line on the November ballot with our petition drives.

I have learned a great deal about party shenanigans these last few weeks and I have to say I highly suspect the “Lazio No show” was calculated.  He could have sent a representative, he didn’t.

There is precious time left to get ready for the New York Republican Primary September 14th.  I would advise all Tea Party groups to not give one single second of that precious time made possible by hard working grassroots activists to “No Show Lazio”.
